The Four Levers of Sales Velocity
Velocity has four inputs. Each one has its own usual fixes.
Open opportunities
More qualified deals in play. Usually moved by prospecting, referrals and sharper qualification. Unqualified deals add count but not revenue.
Average deal value
The size of each deal. Usually moved by selling to larger accounts, selling more seats or modules, and holding price in the last call.
Win rate
The share of closed deals you win. Usually moved by better discovery, a mutual plan with the buyer and seeing what your best reps do differently.
Sales cycle
Days from first call to signature. Usually moved by getting the buyer's other decision makers in early and agreeing dates for each step.
How It Is Calculated
Sales velocity = (open opportunities times average deal value times win rate) divided by sales cycle in days.
The result is revenue per day. The month figure is the day figure times 30. To show what each lever adds, the calculator improves each input by 10 percent in turn (more opportunities, higher value, higher win rate, or a cycle 10 percent shorter) and compares the new velocity with the old. It runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is sales velocity?
The revenue your pipeline produces per day. It combines how many deals you have, how big they are, how often you win and how long they take.
Which lever should I pull first?
The one you can actually move this quarter. The calculator shows what a 10 percent gain on each adds; a shorter cycle gives a bit more than the same gain on the others, because it divides the whole result.
Should win rate be a percent or a fraction?
A percent. Enter 25 for 25 percent.
