How to Count Your Win Rate

A win rate is only useful if everyone counts the same way. Agree these three points before you compare reps or quarters.

  • How to count a win

A win is a deal with a signed order or a first payment. A verbal yes is not a win until the paper is in.

  • Lost versus no decision

Lost means the buyer chose a competitor or said no. No decision means the deal went quiet. Count it as lost after a fixed time with no reply, say 90 days, and use the same rule every quarter.

  • The three cuts to make

Split the rate by rep, by lead source and by deal size. The blended number hides the answer; the split shows where deals are won and lost.

How It Is Calculated

Win rate = deals won divided by (deals won plus deals lost), as a percent.

Deals still open are left out, because they have not been decided. The calculator runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good win rate?

For B2B sales, 20 to 30 percent of closed deals is typical. Below 15 percent points to a problem in qualification or in the middle of the sales process. Above 30 percent is strong.

Should I count deals still open?

No. Only count deals that closed as won or lost, otherwise the rate drops every time you add pipeline.

Is win rate the same as close rate?

Teams use the words in different ways. Here win rate is won deals divided by all closed deals, won and lost.
